Jaindl Properties, LLC, Dunn Twiggar Company, LLC and Michael Dunn Co., collectively the Waterfront Redevelopment Partners, announced today that they have officially closed on the twenty-six acre site along the western banks of the Lehigh River in Allentown. The site, former home to Lehigh Structural Steel (or LSS), has been occupied and underutilized by a small portfolio of industrial tenants throughout the last two decades.
Prior to their inhabiting of the land, the site was occupied by a titan of the industry: Lehigh Structural Steel employed hundreds of Allentownians and produced steel for some of the largest projects in the nation. Due to a foothold in foreign steel in the late 1960’s, the company began to hemorrhage money and eventually succumbed in 1991, closing it’s doors for the final time and raising the unemployment rate of the region.
Now the site, once again, has a new hope.
The Waterfront will be a master-planned development comprised of office, residential, retail, hotel, and restaurant uses. The riverside walk, parks, and plazas will provide a vibrant and unique venue for a variety of experiences, including outdoor concerts, programmed events, new dining opportunities, and unparalleled views of the Lehigh River. The Waterfront is located within the City of Allentown’s Neighborhood Improvement Zone.
