The Lehigh Valley
The Lehigh Valley, an area of eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey, is comprised of approximately 825,000 residents among its 42 square miles of land. The three major cities of Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton are all conveniently connected by Routes 22 and 78. The same routes, in addition to Route 476 (alternatively known as “The Blue Route”) makes travel between major metropolitan areas, including New York City (90 minutes) and Philadelphia (55 minutes), extremely convenient.
Coca-Cola Park, located just a few minutes to the east off of the American Parkway, is an 8,200-seat baseball park home to the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. The $50.25 million park, which accommodates up to 10,100 fans across its stands and many suites and terraces, was completed in 2007 and has since been ranked among the nicest minor league fields in the nation.
The brand new PPL Center, to be finished in Fall 2014, is currently being constructed at the center of Allentown’s urban core. The brand new $272 million arena will be home to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers. Plans to bring in a number of events weekly on top of the scheduled hockey season paired with the 10,000 person capacity promises to breathe new life into the city’s core.
The Sands Casino and Resort, founded on the site of the former Bethlehem Steel site, operates approximately 3,000 slot machines, 129 table games, a full-service hotel, an event center and a high-end outlet mall. The industrial-themed casino was first opened in 2009 offering solely slot machines, but expanded its 139,000 square foot gaming floor to include table games in 2010. The site’s hotel offers 302 rooms, 22 suites and 12,000 square feet of meeting space along with an indoor pool and fitness center.
