Fortune Names Allentown “Up-and-Coming”
It is no mystery to Lehigh Valley natives that the Valley’s largest city, Allentown, has been undergoing quite the change over the past two years. With the emergence of City Center Lehigh Valley and the new PPL Center, home to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the city’s urban core has transformed into a vibrant hub of progress. As the steel of major projects continues to rise around the city’s center square other, smaller, businesses and startups are moving into the area, thus reversing the “brain drain” and bringing new life to the urban streets.
“While most people point to New York, or LA, or San Francisco, it’s actually happening in cities of all sizes in all corners of the country”
-Leigh Gallagher | Fortune Magazine
While much of the focus is currently on Allentown’s Center City projects, The Waterfront will be the catalyst for the full redevelopment of the city’s Riverside District. The 1,000,000 square foot redevelopment of the former Lehigh Structural Steel site will breathe new life into an area once hidden behind a curtain of industrialism. With six Class A office buildings, three state-of-the-art apartment complexes, two parking garages, a half-mile signature River Walk, two open air plazas and the introduction of a new retail district, The Waterfront will continue to transform the face of Allentown, PA.
Allentown was featured third among other five listed. Other cities included Des Moines, IA, Kansas City, MO, Louisville, KY, and Cincinnati, OH.
